A Giant of a Man

My grandpa had a lot of health problems over the last 10 yrs, and to be totally honest I think we all thought this was just another bump in the road. More trips for IV therapy and back to work he would go.  So it was a surprise wednesday evening to get the call that he didn't have more than 12 hrs left to live. Although we got on the road soon after the call my mom, dad, aunt and one of my sisters arrived 5 mins after he passed and my car load arrived 15 mins after had passed.  It is a blessing for him to be free of his crippled body.
But boy am I going to miss this man.

When i sat down this afternoon to read his obituary that my dad wrote i got to this part:

In retirement, Merlin continued to work as a pharmacist and was at his post at Larry’s Family Pharmacy in Preston, Idaho as recently as a week ago.  Merlin enjoyed his work and said that he would die if he didn’t work.  It turns out he was right – he didn’t go to work this week and he died. Let this be a lesson to all of you who think that it is okay to play hooky from work.

I couldn't help but laugh and the image crossed my mind of my grandpa's face as his smile would take over and his whole body would shake as he chuckled. I know thats what he was doing when he read this cause that stubborn man refused to quit working. In fact we had to call his work to let them know of his passing because he was still on the schedule.

As we went through his stuff looking for some paperwork we needed i found a card someone had sent him that said to them he was a giant of a man. It hit me because it 100% describes him in soooo many different aspects. The one thing I know for sure is- the thing I will miss the most is hugging that giant of a man.
I love you Grandpa

I'm so sorry you lost your Grandpa Kira! Grandpa hugs are so special. I look forward to the day when I'll be able to hug my grandpa again. Thankfully, this life is just the beginning of all the special bonds we form with our family members.
